Trumpet Winsock v5.0

Trumpet Winsock v5.0 is a fully-featured 32-bit dialler used with Windows 95/98 and Windows NT and comrising of IPv6 capabilities.

It is used for dialling into your local service provider to connect you to the Internet. The program is also a Winsock v1.1 compliant TCP/IP stack, and will enable you to make IPv6 name lookups and reverse lookups, TCP and UDP connections on IPv6. To make your connection, your application will need to be IPv6 aware.

IPv6 is a replacement Internet Protocol that will enhance the ability to sustain the continuous growth of the Internet. It will also solve the IP address space depletion dilemma and enhancing other properties eventually making an impact on the availability of the Internet. By using the IPv6 Addressing feature, rather than the existing IPv4 protocol, the limit on addresses has been extended from a theoretical 4 billion to 340 trillion, trillion, trillion (3.4 x 10³⁸)

IPv6 is more than an improved long term addressing facility. It is a protocol that offers more scalable network architecture, improved security and data integrity, improved quality of service and security enhancements.

The 128-bit address space that IPv6 uses, will allow businesses to deploy a great array of new desktop, mobile and embedded network devices in a cost effective, control manner. The advanced auto configuration features will allow automatic attachment of these devices to the network without the costs of manual configuring.

IPv6 functionality.

1. TCP, UDP and Raw sockets work. Raw sockets only operate on the pay load portion of IPv6 packets. ICMPv6 packets may be sent and received via raw sockets.
2. At the moment Neighbour discovery are for hosts only. Entries in the neighbor cache do not expire, as the cache size is limited to 512 entries and wraps around on a LRU basis.
3. Gateway discovery and address autoconfiguration are done for Ethernet interfaces.
4. DNS lookups support AAAA and IP6.INT. Both IPv4 and IPv6 servers are supported.
5. Although PPP and Header compression are implemented, Header compression is not yet tested.

This latest version has many of the earlier features built in, which millions of people around the world are using. All the diagnostic functions of earlier versions are also included here.

1. Simple setup and configuration screens with the ability to change setup through either the Dialer or the Manager interface.
2. Multiple network and dial-up interfaces: This will allow you to configure the Trumpet Winsock for different modems or network cards and store the separate configurations.
3. Multiple service providers (Profiles): Multiple profiles can be set up in the Trumpet Winsock for multiple ISP connections and select between them with just one mouse click.
4. Automatic, Manual or Scripted Login: These options are provided for use depending on your requirements. Automatic PAP and CHAP login is new to this version. Dialling is automatic and no longer requires a script.
5. Built in NDIS3 driver: Trumpet Winsock automatically links in with installed network cards or dial up interfaces. This makes the installation process extremely simple.
6. Log TCP/IP activity to file: This shows all aspects of your connection which can be used when requesting technical support.
7. Configuration "on the fly": Can modify all TCP/IP settings without the need to restart windows. This is of particular advantage when configuring or changing configuration in the Trumpet Winsock.
8. Built-In TCP/IP utilities: Ping, Dig, Hop(Traceroute) and Tcpmeter are included here for any of your diagnostic requirements.
