Trumpet Winsock 3.0 - Known Problems

Trumpet Winsock 3.0A

  • Trumpet Winsock won't run bye.cmd

When Trumpet Winsock has been demand loaded by an application, and the application has completed the use of the Winsock, the Trumpet Winsock exits without running the bye.cmd script. That is the modem has not been hung up and is still on line. You need to run Trumpet Winsock and select 'Bye' from the 'Dialler' menu to hang up.

  • Bootp doesn't work

When bootp is used as the IP address with Ethernet, it won't work correctly. SLIP or PPP should be chosen.

  • I can not use "32 bit applications" with Windows 3.1x anymore

Applications such as Mosaic that need Win32s installed on Windows 3.1x machines will experience some problems using this version. Win32s includes a wsock32.dll file that is used with any winsock to provide some 32-bit functions. The installer for Trumpet Winsock automatically renames this to wsock32.old and installs its own wsock32.dll in the Trumpet directory. The solution to this is to rename or delete the Trumpet wsock32.dll and rename the Win32s wsock32.old back to wsock32.dll.

  • I can not select a Comm port higher than com4

Trumpet Winsock will only allow selection of com1 through to com4. Windows 95 occasionally assigns Comm ports to 5 or higher. A work around is to edit the trumpwsk.ini file directly and change the line "slip-port=" to the number of the Comm port. This will be automatically reset if you go back to the Setup screen from the File menu.
