Trumpet Fanfare^TM

Trumpet Fanfare^TM is a simple, reliable and flexible Internet server (A computer that acts as a resource for information on a computer network is known as a "Server"). It performs all the essential tasks that is required of an Internet server (An Internet server is a computer that offers an Internet service such as email, FTP, New and Web).

Fanfare is a Windows based platform and is easy to administer and configure without the use of expensive and administratively intensive mail servers, such as, UNIX, Lotus Notes or Microsoft Exchange. Fanfare can equally be applied to medium and SOHO (small office/home office) businesses.

What is Fanfare?

Fanfare was originally developed in 1994 by the founder of Trumpet Software International Pty Ltd, Peter Tattam.

It is a windows application that will run on Windows 3.11, Windows 95 or Windows NT platform and performs the following functions:

• Email
• WWW
• FTP
• News (Windows 3.11 only)
• DNS (Windows 3.11 only)
• Telnet
• Radius Authentication services
• Virtual Hosting

Trumpet Fanfare^TM is easily installed, maintained and administered. Fanfare is small (not resource-hungry), fast, robust, flexible and cost effective. It manages its own user authentication lists and has facilities for virtual hosting of all services. It also has mechanisms for authentication of all services over the RADIUS protocol.

More and more companies are faced with the problem of providing their staff with email addresses and access to the internet. Fanfare gives companies control over setting up email accounts and email activity, rather than going through an Internet Service Provider.

How Does Fanfare Work?

Fanfare is a server that provides the basic functions for all Internet users. When clients are connected to the Internet, the server will fetch mail or look up web pages for you.

Is It Difficult To Administer?

One of the real beauties of Fanfare is its simplicity. Mail accounts and aliases are very easy to set up and can be done remotely. Users are given access via FTP to allow accounts to be moved to and from Fanfare. All activity can be easily monitored.

Who Should Use Fanfare?

If you have a small or even a large network, you will be able to use Fanfare for any of the functions listed above. However, as an email server, has been the most popular use to date.

What Do I Need To Run Fanfare?

The minimum requirements for configuration are as follows:

• PC with 8Mg RAM.
• A network card to an Internet enabled LAN or a dial up Internet connection.
• 100Mg disk space free.
• Trumpet Winsock 4.0 or above, Microsoft TCP/IP, or Trumpet Firesock^TM 1.0c or above.
• A permanent connection to the Internet.
• Your own domain name.

If you run Fanfare with Firesock, you will have the best of both worlds. That is, there will be Internet access for your network users, external mail and firewall security provided by Firesock.

For the IPv6 services, Trumpet Winsock 5.0 is required.
